As Torrington grows and develops, the Torrington Historical Society Museum is working to serve the community by collecting more recent history and developing programs to reach a wider, more diverse audience. Studies conducted over several years have shown that these initiatives require more space and more staff. Since 2023 the museum has been working with award-wining architect and Torrington native, Mark Cavagnero, to design renovations and an addition to the carriage house. The concept is to create climate-controlled space to protect and expand collections while providing
new opportunities for exhibits and programs…a space that is both functional and welcoming to the entire community.
A gift to this campaign through Northwest Corner Gives will help fund the final set of construction drawings that are necessary to unlock the state, federal and philanthropic funding to build a 15,000 square foot Center for History and
Culture. This will allow the museum to continue its mission “to build a sense of community and a foundation for the future through the preservation and understanding of our shared past.” This project isn’t just about a building. It’s about preserving identity, creating belonging, and ensuring continuity between generations. It is about giving families, students, newcomers, and visitors a place to connect with the roots of this city, and in doing so, strengthen Torrington’s future.
