This grant will serve low- to moderate-income pet owners throughout Litchfield County, CT, including individuals and families experiencing financial hardship due to rising living costs. The constituency includes seniors on fixed incomes, working families facing economic strain, and individuals accessing local food banks and community assistance programs. Many of these residents live in underserved areas, where access to affordable veterinary care and pet supplies is limited. Without support, they are often forced to delay essential services such as vaccinations or spay/neuter procedures, or struggle to provide consistent nutrition for their
pets.
By targeting those already connected to community resources—such as food banks, social service agencies, and local outreach programs—this initiative will reach pet owners who are most at risk of being unable to care for their animals. The program ultimately supports both the well-being of pets and the stability of the households that love them, helping to prevent unnecessary surrender and keep families
