logoTucked into the corner of Northwest CT is Great Mountain Forest, a 6,300-acre conservation success story and a model of what a community forest could and should be. Over more than a century, the once barren landscape has been sustainably managed and is now a thriving woodland, rich in biodiversity, where moose, black bears and bobcats roam. Today, our impact reaches far beyond our boundaries. Through education and outreach, we serve as a:

  • Living classroom for students and teachers
  • Training ground for forest stewards
  • Research laboratory for scientists
  • Recreation site for hikers, cyclists and cross country skier
  • Muse for writers and artist

With your support, we can provide even more for our greater community: K through 12 student field trips and research opportunities, internships for future forestry professionals, nature writing seminars, community lectures and guided walks, an expanded trail system, and forest management workshops.

Because they harbor plants and animals, inspire a sense of wonder and well-being and can teach us about the workings of the natural world, healthy forests are essential for our collective future. Please give today and join us in realizing our vision for a forest-friendly future that serves the communities of the Northwest Corner.
