Institute for American Indian Studies
Native Americans have served in the United States military with the highest record of service per capita when compared to any other ethnic group. Each year, the Institute for American Indian Studies partners with representatives from various tribes to honor several local Native Americans who have served in the Armed Forces.
The event includes a ceremony, an Indigenous drum group to provide specialized honor songs, Native American flute music, as well as an honor guard from the VFW. The annual event also provides an opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifices of all veterans, Native and Non-Native, who have served.
This annual event, which is free and open to the public, provides invaluable moments of reflection, recognition, intercultural connection, Indigenous
cultural renewal, and healing for those in attendance. Following, attendees are invited to enjoy a light meal in the museum.
Your support will help us to recognize the sacrifices of this year’s honorees. Contributions go entirely toward event expenses including honoraria for Indigenous culture keepers, veteran recognition materials, a meal shared with attendees and more comfortable seating.
Help us to create a memorable experience for the honorees, their families, and attending veterans.
