This program will be provided by EdAdvance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and the Regional Educational Service Center (RESC) serving northwest Connecticut. For more than 50 years our agency has been providing exceptional education, health, and human services programs in response to community needs. To address the gaps in learning and the need for social-emotional supports and summer childcare for essential workers created by the Covid-19 Crisis, we are implementing an innovative program for preschool and school age youth (kindergarten to grade 8). This multi-component program will provide both remote and onsite engaging learning experiences and social-emotional supports for the most vulnerable children and families in our region, including families served by Head Start, the Nurturing Families Network, Torrington Public Schools, Before and After School Extended Services (BASES), Homeless Education Services, 21st Century Learning Centers, and PAL Mentoring Programs.
Your financial support is especially critical at this time, as our agency receives no direct state or local operational support. As the second largest nonprofit employer in the region, EdAdvance has maintained 100% employment throughout the crisis, and as a result, has a significant budget shortfall. Many Northwest Corner families will benefit from this program, especially those that are struggling with job loss and financial, housing, and food insecurity.
Our minimum campaign goal is $20,000 – we hope to exceed this goal! Your donations will support licensed childcare for children to receive culturally and developmentally appropriate onsite daily learning experiences at the Summer Adventure Program, focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), health, nutrition/fitness, and wellness. These onsite services will fully comply with federal and state enrollment, health, and safety requirements.
Children whose parents/guardians are employed as essential workers will receive priority for services, and a sliding scale tuition scholarship program will support the most vulnerable families.
Your donations will also support: Summer Adventure Activity Kits to be distributed at Summer Feeding Program sites with nutritious meals to 500 low-income families; daily virtual learning experiences, focused in STEAM, health, nutrition/fitness, and wellness, provided to over 200 children and families; Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other Covid-specific supplies; and staff stipends for learning and support services.
Every gift makes a difference. And every gift up to the campaign goal is matched dollar-for-dollar by the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation.
